Bio-hexenol.

Fresh aroma of green grass, but better!

Synbio-derived, Nature inspired.

Bio-hexenol is a synbio-derived sustainable alternative to traditionally produced
cis-3-hexenol.

Imagine capturing the fresh, green scent of a just-mowed lawn and bottling it. This essence is due to ‘cis-3-hexenol’!

We’ve developed a proprietary technology on the basis of engineered enzyme cascades to transform renewable carbon sources (sugars) into the fresh aroma of green grass!

Consistent quality
High scalability
Reliable supply chain

Turning Sugars into Fragrances.

WHY?

Did you know that the fresh, grassy smell you love is used in food, cosmetics, and consumables as fragrances and flavors?

But producing it traditionally comes at a high environmental cost!

Conventional methods for producing cis-3-hexenol rely heavily on petrochemicals and harsh substances, leading to significant environmental concerns.

For example, chemical synthesis leans heavily on petrochemicals and harsh reagents, which can lead to air and water pollution. Natural extraction sidesteps petrochemicals but brings its own challenges—relying on labor, seasonal shifts, and heavy water use.

By utilizing advanced technologies like enzyme engineering and precision fermentation, we can produce high-quality Bio-hexenol with minimal environmental impact.

Redefining how we engage
with our senses

We’re creating Bio-hexenol, to offer a sustainable and reliable alternative to traditional production methods that depend on petrochemicals and are subject to agricultural inconsistencies.

HOW?

Using synthetic biology (Synbio), we are producing this aroma with engineered enzymes. Synbio is like nature’s toolkit, but redesigned and optimized for our purposes. By tweaking the DNA of microorganisms, we can get them to produce desired compounds efficiently and sustainably.

To produce Bio-hexenol, we first identify the natural enzymes in plants responsible for this scent. Then, we modify the DNA of microorganisms to include the genetic instructions for these enzymes. Once these microorganisms are grown in bioreactors, they act like tiny factories, using the engineered enzymes to convert sugars into Bio-hexenol.
