Mr. Subramani (suBBu) Ramachandrappa

Serial entrepreneur in the Biotech industry

Mr Subramani Ramachandrappa, a seasoned entrepreneur in the biotech industry, is the founder of Fermbox Bio, a synthetic biology company focused on the sustainable production of animal-free alternatives. He is also the founder of Laurus Bio, which manufactures animal-origin-free recombinant proteins and enzymes, and offers CDMO services to the bio-pharma and novel food industries. Mr Subramani is a managing partner of Vivnova Ventures LLP, which invests in sustainable technology startups.

He is a member of NBRIC, a public-private partnership focused on developing biomedical resources, and a former Treasurer and Executive Council Member of ABLE, Association of Biotech Led Enterprises, a forum that represents the Indian biotechnology sector.

Mr Subramani’s leadership and entrepreneurial experience have enabled him to impact the biotech industry in India and the USA significantly. His ventures, memberships, and roles have been crucial in driving innovation, fostering growth, and promoting sustainability in the biotech industry.

Preeti Dharmagoudar

Co-founder & Director of Product Strategy

Preeti is an accomplished professional with a diverse background in business strategy, product management, and international business. As the Co-founder and Director of Product Strategy at Fermbox Bio, she plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of biomaterials through her on-point expertise and global perspective.

At Abbott Nutrition International, she delivered impactful consumer insights that drove informed decision-making and guided innovation initiatives. Her consulting stints with Chinese business partners helped identify new opportunities and facilitated successful market expansion. While serving as the Head of Business Strategy and Product Management at Biocon Limited, Preeti played a vital role in driving innovation and promoting commercial success. She led strategic initiatives such as product evaluation, technical collaborations, and global partnerships, which helped to expand the company’s market reach and accelerate growth.

As the Director of Product Strategy of Fermbox Bio, her understanding of the industry and global market dynamics enables her to drive innovative solutions and position the company at the forefront of biomaterial advancements.

Dr. S.R. Rao

Former Senior Advisor in the Department of Biotechnology (DBT)

Bio:

Dr. S.R. Rao, a distinguished former Senior Advisor in the Department of Biotechnology for the Government of India, is a renowned expert in promoting and managing research and development across various fields of biotechnology. 

With his extensive experience, he has made significant contributions to negotiating international collaborations with developing and developed countries and has played an active role in international conventions such as the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and Biological Weapons Convention (BWC).

As the Vice President of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth University Pondicherry, Dr. Rao is committed to promoting research, innovation, and development ecosystems. He is also a co-founder of the Global Alliance for Pandemic Preparedness and Response (APAR) and the founder and editorial board member of the RIS-Asian Biotechnology Development Review (ABDR).

Dr. Rao’s expertise in regulatory guidelines for biosimilars, recombinant vaccines, biosafety containment, and gene therapy is widely recognized. He has published 50 research papers in national and international journals and authored two books, one on animal vaccines and diagnostics and the other on biotechnology in Asian countries. His contributions have significantly advanced the biotechnology field, and his a profound impact on the global scientific community.

Dr. Ulrich F. Tillmann

Ulrich F. Tillmann is a highly accomplished marketing and product manager with a PhD in molecular biology. He has extensive experience in cell culture supplements used in biopharma manufacturing, working in various capacities ranging from R&D to sales to portfolio management. 

Ulrich has worked in various capacities with numerous startups in the United States and was a tenured employee at Merck KGaA in Darmstadt, Germany, for most of his career. At Merck, Ulrich led the global portfolio of recombinant cell culture supplements and biopharma manufacturing enzymes.

Bio:

Dr. Jay Shetty is a veteran in the field of Industrial Biotechnology with a strong focus on enzymes and their use in industrial, food, feed, as well as health and nutritional applications. This fascination inspired his PhD in Biochemistry, and subsequent post-doctoral work at Cornell University, that resulted in an illustrious career in R&D, applied innovations, and fermentation engineering.

He has moved up to the highest technical rank, “DuPont Fellow”, in DuPont Industrial Bioscience, R&D organization. With more than four decades of technical expertise in Innovation and Marketing, Dr. Shetty has successfully converted scientific breakthroughs into value-added solutions, leading to commercial success and significant revenue. He has developed new and differentiated products and processes with additional value. He has also pioneered the application of enzymes in various sectors, including the enzymatic hydrolysis of food proteins and starch for improved nutritional and functional properties.Throughout his career, Dr. Shetty has built an extensive portfolio of more than 100 granted and filed patents, penned over 50 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. In addition, Dr. Jay Shetty was a recipient of 2005 “Top One Hundred R&D Award”, 2008 Research Excellence Award and 2010 Agricultural Research Service Technology Transfer Award, a USDA sponsored research program.

Dr. Ling Hua Ph.D.

Bio:

Dr. Ling Hua is an experienced executive with more than 25 years of experiences in Industrial Biotechnology. Her rich career spans from academia, startup to multinational companies. She is a global leader, worked at different companies in the US, Europe, and China. 

She successfully led commercialization of many products in industrial enzymes, biocatalysis, probiotics, and biomaterials, created millions of revenues. She was Harold Jeskey Professor at Southern Methodist University in the field of biocatalysis and biotransformation. She spent more than 10 years at DuPont Nutrition and Biosciences, led global R&D in industrial enzymes, biomaterials and probiotics. She was the Head of Group Biotechnology at Clariant, responsible for strategy and its execution of biofuel, synthetic biology, and industrial enzymes portfolio. She has a Ph.D. in Bioorganic Chemistry from Rice University. She authored more than 40 research papers, book chapters, and she is the inventor of several dozens of issued patents. She was a Board member of SusChem (European Technology Platform for Sustainable Chemistry) and a Governing Board of Director of Alternative Fuels and Chemicals Coalition. She is also a leadership coach, her clients include CEOs, entrepreneurs, Senior leaders in 500 fortune companies.

K. A. Srinivasan (KAS)

Bio:

K. A. Srinivasan (KAS) is an independent consultant focusing on venture capital structuring, fund raising, and reporting. Currently he is advising Ventureast and Blue Hill Capital (VC fund managers) for their new fund raise and structuring.

Formerly the Partner & CFO at Ventureast Fund Advisor from 2009 to 2019, KAS contributed to the growth of one of India’s oldest VC firms, managing approximately ~USD 300 million Assets Under Management. During his tenure, he focused on the Fintech, Edutech, and Food tech sectors, handling various aspects such as portfolio management, PPM preparation, fund raising, domestic and overseas structuring, constitution documentation, investor relations, fund administration, term sheet and SHA finalization, exits, global taxation, valuation, and due diligence.
KAS also served as a board member for various portfolio companies, providing guidance on business strategy, fund raising, key recruitments, and strategic exits.
With nearly 30 years of experience in Finance and Operations across manufacturing, processing, and services, KAS established his Finance and Accounting Outsourcing (FAO) business before selling it to the Aditya Birla group. He held the position of Global Finance Controller at Sutherland Global Services, a US-based BPO, where he initiated the shared services platform and implemented ERP globally. Earlier in his career, he held senior positions in the A V Thomas group, managing agro-operations. His expertise lies in cross-border structuring, due diligence, business finance, financial planning and analysis, pricing, and budgets.
Beyond his professional pursuits, KAS is passionate about acting, photography, Tamil literature, painting, cycling, and cooking.
